Our History

1983

James R. Thompson, Inc. (JRT) was established in 1983 when our patriarch & founder Jim Thompson saw a need for a General Contractor who specialized in high-end Tenant Finish-Out.  The Crescent, a luxury mixed-use development, in Dallas’s Uptown had just completed and that provided some bid opportunities for us. This helped establish the company and our reputation for quality, customer service, trustworthiness, and long-term partnerships with our clients.

2014

After 30 years & the successful completion of over 1,000 construction projects, the Thompson Family began to transfer operations to the next generation: Jim Thompson moved over to the CEO position, Ryan Thompson was promoted to President, and Todd Grogan was promoted to VP of Operations. Over the next 6 years, we hired over 20 new employees to further increase our capabilities in Corporate Interiors as well our Ground Up projects and Cost Segregation work. To accommodate this growth, we designed and built our new AGC Award Winning, LEED Certified JRT Headquarters.

2019

JRT surpassed $1 Billion mark in completed projects after finishing the American Airlines Terminal D Flagship lounge project, in which is the largest interiors project in our history. Lance Thompson was promoted to Senior Project Manager and Cody Thompson joined the firm as a Senior Project Manager marking the first time all three brothers were involved in the day-to-day operations of the family-owned company.
